There are have been studies and endless expert opinion about the importance of engaging your audience/customers in conversation. Aberdeen did reported results from a survey in 2009 on best-in-class companies showing that this was the most important strategic initiative.

Perhaps more important than studies are the actual performance of Q&A sites. Yahoo Answers is one of the most trafficed sites on the web. It is so popular that they are rolling out local versions of it as Yahoo Neighborhoods. Other sites include AnswerBag, WikiAnswers, Mahalo and as a reflection of it's continuing popularity there have been highly successful recent launches of Q&A products: Aardvark and Hunch for example. The former founded by Ex-Googlers and the latter founded by the creator of Flickr.

So that said, with all those options out there, why YouSaidIt and how will you compete? Well, those other sites are all national destination sites, not specific to your community or audience. With a Q&A site for your community they can get answers from people they value more - people like them, and you.
